Katie Mehnert is the Founder and CEO of Pink Petro™, the first and only global social learning community for women in energy aimed specifically at disrupting the gender gap.  Pink Petro launched in early 2015 with initial industry support from Halliburton, Shell, and Jive Software.  The community unites, connects, and develops women, integrating men in the process using social technology to form a targeted private experience network. In less than seven months, Pink Petro has 550 members from 20 countries, 215 companies, and has a growing list of accolades.

Katie has 18 years of delivering change, learning, and culture transformations in both management consultancy and corporate roles. She is the President of Cognovi Communications, which provides strategic change management solutions to the energy industry. As a “People Engineer,” Katie helps leaders and teams cut waste, reduce risk, and deliver sustainable solutions to operational, safety, and talent challenges.
Prior to Cognovi, Katie held global safety leadership roles inside industry with British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell.  At Shell, she formed and deployed the systems and culture discipline to support high-risk line operations in Deepwater, Unconventionals, and Downstream Manufacturing and Distribution. At BP she joined as Director of Safety and Operational Risk and worked with the executive team on a turnaround competence program after the Macondo oil spill. Her early career included consultancy roles inside Enron, Duke Energy, Waste Management, Entergy, and a few venture start-ups.  

Katie serves on the board of the Offshore Energy Center and the executive council of Ellevate, a global professional women’s network.  She is a graduate of Louisiana State University in Communications, Rice University’s Executive Energy program and The Center for Houston’s Future. Katie was recently named to the Houston Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40, Houston’s Top 30 Most Influential Women, Who’s Who in Energy, and was awarded the Vanguard Award in STEM by Girls, Inc. 

Katie authors a business column for Singapore Straits Times, speaks internationally, and is a four-time World Major marathoner having completed London, Chicago, New York and Berlin. She and her husband, Mark, Associate General Counsel with GE Oil and Gas, live in the Energy Corridor with their four-year old daughter, Ally.
